End-of-Course

To strengthen high school curriculum and ensure that all students have mastered a core body of knowledge and skills before graduation, many states are preparing standardized curriculum-based exams, known as End-of-Course Assessment. These exams measure what students know and are able to do upon completion of required high school courses, such as Algebra, Geometry, Biology, and U.S. History, among others. Unlike final exams that are developed by local teachers, the new end-of-course exams reflect statewide curriculum standards and are given throughout the state to ensure a consistent measure of high school accountability.
